QuestAir and ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company Begin 2nd Phase of Project to Develop On-Board Hydrogen Generator
BURNABY, B.C. – QuestAir Technologies Inc. (AIM: QAR; TSX: QAR) announced today that it has received a US$1.2 million (C$1.4 million) engineering services contract from ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company (“EMRE”) to support the development of an on-board hydrogen generator for potential use in a range of transportation markets.
Jonathan Wilkinson, President and CEO of QuestAir, said the contract, which is expected to run for approximately one year, is the second received from EMRE in support of this program. QuestAir completed the first phase of the program in October 2004 under an initial US$1 million (C$1.2 million) contract. The contract announced today covers the application of QuestAir’s proprietary mechanical technology in EMRE’s proprietary fuel processor (or “reformer”) design.
“The supply of hydrogen fuel is a key challenge in the commercialization of early motive fuel cell markets such as fuel cell powered utility equipment, auxiliary power units (APUs) for a wide range of vehicles, and fleet buses. The hydrogen generator that EMRE and QuestAir are developing should offer a compact, efficient solution to generate hydrogen directly on board the vehicle itself. One of the key advantages of the system is its flexibility to use a range of readily available hydrocarbon fuels,” Wilkinson said.
