QuestAir Technologies Installs HyQuestor
Hydrogen Purifier at Toronto Hydrogen Power Demonstration
BURNABY, B.C. - QuestAir Technologies announced today that its
HyQuestor® hydrogen purification system is being demonstrated
as part of a hydrogen fuel cell power generator and refueler
developed by Hydrogenics Corporation. The 50 kW HySTAT
power generator and integrated hydrogen refueler, the first
of its kind in Canada, was unveiled at Exhibition Place in Toronto
during the 'Green Day' activities at the Canadian National Exhibition
(CNE).
QuestAir's HyQuestor® system purifies hydrogen generated
or 'reformed' from natural gas. In addition to providing high
purity hydrogen for the HySTAT power generator, the same hydrogen
supply is being used to refuel a fuel cell powered 'Pro Gator'
demonstrator vehicle developed by John Deere using Hydrogenics'
fuel cell power module technology.
The demonstration at this year's CNE is the first phase of
a 3-year initiative undertaken by Hydrogenics, the City of
Toronto and Exhibition Place. Electrical power generated by
the HySTAT fuel cell generator will demonstrate an energy
management practice known as "peak shaving", with
the capability to supply power to the National Trade Center
during periods of high electricity consumption when power
is more expensive. In addition, the John Deere demonstrator
vehicle will demonstrate the use of fuel cell technology to
enhance the productivity and reduce the emissions of work
vehicles. Funding support for the HySTAT power generator and
refueler was provided by the Canadian Transportation Fuel
Cell Alliance and Natural Resources Canada.
Jonathan Wilkinson, President and CEO of QuestAir, said that
the Toronto project is the second integrated hydrogen power
generator and refueler to use QuestAir's advanced hydrogen
purification technology, following the City of Las Vegas hydrogen
energy station that opened in November 2002 in Las Vegas,
Nevada.
"We are extremely pleased to be working with Hydrogenics
on this high profile demonstration. This project confirms
QuestAir's position as the leading supplier of compact, cost
effective hydrogen purification solutions for distributed
hydrogen refueling stations. The integrated hydrogen energy
station featuring the co-production of both hydrogen and electricity
also demonstrates the value of QuestAir's advanced pressure
swing adsorption technology for enhancing the performance
of stationary fuel cells", Wilkinson said.
"Hydrogen purity is very important for
reliable operation of our fuel cells," said Pierre Rivard,
President and CEO of Hydrogenics. "It gives us great
satisfaction to be able to include QuestAir's leading expertise
in this area as part of our demonstration in Toronto."
